Visit Kukrail Conservation Forest Of Lucknow – A Natural Paradise : There are many species of animals in India which are on the verge of extinction or are endangered. One of these creatures is also a species of Gharial which is struggling to maintain its life. The Gharial species is closely related to the crocodile, whose population has declined sharply since the 1930s, mainly due to habitat loss, food shortages, hunting, etc. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has listed this species on its Red List.

Lucknow’s Kukrail Conservation Forest is on the way to save this species of crocodile. This forest is about 9 km from Lucknow. It is situated far away. After the continuous decrease in the number of gharials in India, the state government made it especially for the protection of gharials. Kukrail Conservation Forest is one of the famous forest reserves of India which was developed under the special initiative of the Government of Uttar Pradesh. Along with the reserve forest, Kukrail is also developed as a major tourist destination and national park and also provides excellent opportunities for boating.

The national park here also preserves sambar, deer, leopard and other wild animals that adorn the national park and entertain its visitors. Various types of migratory birds can also be seen here. About 300 alligators live alone in the alligator breeding center here.

Following Are The Main Objectives Of Kukrail Conservation Forest..

Developing A Breeding Ground For Female Alligators..

In Uttar Pradesh, alligators are mainly found in Ramganga River, Suheli River, Girwa River and Chambal River. In 1975, it was felt necessary to protect their habitats so that they can lay eggs and produce newborn gharials. According to an estimate, only 300 crocodiles were left in the rivers here.

Forest reserve officials collect newborn gharials from these rivers and feed them until they are able to fend for themselves and protect themselves from predators. When they grow up, they are released in the Chambal river so that they can experience real life. This work continued very successfully which was further extended to other parts of Uttar Pradesh.

Ban The Hunting Of Alligators..

Kukrail Conservation Forest is also known as Gharial Rehabilitation Center. This forest has been established to stop the smuggling of gharial skin and their other poaching.

Conservation Of Natural Vegetation And Wildlife..

While the Kukrail Conservation Forest is providing protection to alligators, it has also proved helpful in preserving natural vegetation and other wild animals. Along with this, the Forest Department of Uttar Pradesh has also issued a proposal to develop a Leopard Rescue Center here.
