Lucknow is also known as City of Nawaabs because of its regal heritage and elegant architecture. Lucknow has a vibe of old-school city, but there are many secrets that lie behind the walls of these grandeurs, the secrets that have supernatural and haunted stories behind them.

Bada Imambada

Bada Imambada was build by the Nawaab of Awadh Nawaab Asaf-ud- Daula is under the influence of super natural powers. The story behind is that if you explore the Bhool Bhulaiya without a guide then the mazes of the labyrinth are going to eat you. The other tale that lures around the building is that there is a ‘Tehkhana’ in there which was used by the Britishers to lock the Indian freedom fighters, the spirits of those freedom fighters still roam in the premise.

Sikandra Bagh

Sikandra Bagh is a famous spot in Lucknow but famous for all infamous things. The story behind Sikandra Bagh being a haunted place is that in the first war of independence in 1857, many Indian soldiers were killed by the Britishers, but the brutality and cruelty of the British soldiers didn’t end there. They stopped the relatives of the deceased to collect their bodies and perform the last rites. Their corpses were left to rot and be the meal of the vultures. The spirits of these soldiers still roam on the streets of Sikandra Bagh. The people who have visited or live around the place have experienced strange voices and cries of soldiers from inside. It is advised not to visit the place after the dawn.

Balrampur Hospital

Balrampur hospital is located in the middle of the city, but is also carries an eerie story with itself. It is believed that it was built by a British official on the graveyard. Some of the graves are still visible inside the hospital premise. People claim that they have felt a kind of negative energy as soon as they enter the hospital area. There are several people who also say that they have heard unusual sounds and have seen some unnatural figures from the windows of the wards at night.

OEL House

The story behind the OEL House dates back to the pre-freedom era. Before the freedom the OEL House was the residence of the Nawaab of Awadh, Nawaab Wajid Ali Shah. When the British soldiers attacked the Nawaab then, the Indian soldiers counter-attacked the Britishers and hundreds of British soldiers were killed and their bodies were then dumped into the well in the OEL House. Later, after the independence, OEL House was made the residence of Vice-Chancellor of University Of Lucknow. It is said that the boy of the Vice-Chancellor used to throw stones in that well and that woke up the spirits of the deceased. One day that boy was found dead near by the well and from that day it is believed by the people that the house is haunted.

Railway Quarters

The story of railway quarters is really heart wrenching. This is the story of infidelity and grief.

So the tale dates back to times before independence, when railway quarter called Turrets was allocated to Bill Turner, one day when he came back from the work he saw his newly wedded wife cheating on him with another young man. This led him to be very furious and he pulled out his gun and shot them and later shot himself also. From that day it is said that the ghost of Bill turner roams around the quarter.
